About us

Newton is the brainchild of former recruiting professionals (that's us) who got the idea to build better applicant tracking technology after becoming frustrated with existing solutions. Having run corporate recruiting programs for over 12 years prior with printed resumes, email, spreadsheets and complicated software, we wanted to leverage the benefits of internet technology to hiring people easier. So we built Newton, easy-to-use, applicant tracking software that's designed to work the way recruiting works.

Management

Steve Hazelton, CEO, Head of Products, Co-Founder

Steve leads user experience, product design and development. Prior to starting Newton Software, Steve founded Gravity Technologies, Inc., a leading human capital management company comprised of three successful business units. Before entering the recruiting industry, he managed a Senate campaign in Idaho, his home state, and worked for the New Hampshire Senate. Steve received an Honors degree in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire. In his spare time, Steve enjoys dry fly-fishing, cycling, backpacking and reading.

Joel Passen, Head of Marketing, Co-Founder

Joel leads Sales and Marketing for Newton Software. Prior to starting Newton, Joel co-founded Gravity Technologies Inc. and served as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Business Development, heading sales for Gravity's recruitment outsourcing business unit. During his tenure, Joel led Gravity to be named to the San Francisco Business Times "Top 100" for fastest growing companies in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Joel is originally from Cleveland and received a degree in Political Science from The Ohio State University. Joel enjoys cooking, travel, playing ice hockey and photography.

Jonathan Chenard, Vice President of Services

Jonathan leads Newton Software's Services and Support teams. Prior to joining Newton, Jonathan was Vice President of Services and Delivery at GravityPeople, a leading provider of talent acquisition and recruitment outsourcing (RPO) solutions. Chenard also served as a Professional Services Manager and Sales Engineer at Marketsoft (now IBM), a global provider of sales and marketing automation software and services. Jonathan started his career as an International Systems Analyst at The Mathworks, the world's leading developer of technical computing software for engineers and scientists in industry, government, and education. Originally from Massachusetts, Jonathan is a graduate of Manhattanville College and enjoys cycling, skiing, cooking and eating extraordinarily spicy food.
