Obsessive/Compulsive Perfectionist UI Designers

UI Designer

If you’re the type of person that can spend an entire day fretting over whether to lay an image on top, or underneath an opacity mask; If you’ve ever told your team that something was half a pixel too far to the left; if you’ve ever told a user that “if it is confusing, it is my fault, not yours,” Newton could be the place for you.

Our design team is certainly overly obsessed with making really good software. They take longer to design screens then it takes for our development team to build them. Our UI design process is unstable. We get things and like them for about 2 days, and then we find problems with them. There is always something we can do better.

We’re looking for people that want to design something great.

Requirements:

A lifetime of practical experience with perfectionism and creativity are highly desirable.
Very good skills with Illustrator are required. Flash experience is a huge bonus.
The ability to design something for a week, and then throw it away because it doesn’t work.
Creativity is a must.
Ideally, you agree that "tabs" are a design shortcut to be used in only dire circumstances.
Even better, you should also agree that widgets requiring more than 3 steps are really lame.
Of all criteria, the most important is that you can think like a user of your software.

About the Front End Development Position:

Newton Software is seeking an experienced user interface developer to assist in development efforts of our Rich Internet Application. If you are frustrated with the user experience of business applications, if you find their user interaction annoying and cumbersome and want to radically change it, here's your opportunity. Newton Software is looking for an engineer who is obsessive about providing the simplest, most efficient and the most pleasing experience to the users, someone who can think out of the box and can find simple and yet elegant solutions to complex problems. When it comes to programming, we believe in the virtues of simplicity and less is more. Newton Software develops business critical applications. The code you write will be used by companies all over the world to run their businesses on. We take the quality of our code very seriously and are looking for engineers who do the same.

Responsibilities:

Take a disciplined, methodical, minimalist approach to designing and constructing layered software components that can be embedded within larger frameworks or applications
Must be able to understand business objectives and translate business goals into technical design
Must be able to work closely with product management, business development, marketing and customers
Must be willing to experiment with new, cutting edge technologies including Flex and HTML5

Requirements:

2+ years experience in developing user interfaces in one or more of the following frameworks - Flex or HTML5
Previous commercial experience in Adobe Flex is preferred
In relation to Flash; knowledge of CSS, HTML, JavaScript
Solid communication, documentation skills
Multimedia design, development experience a plus
Experience developing mobile applications is a plus
Must work well in a team environment
