2010 was a breakout year for Newton Software and our popular applicant tracking software, Newton. We’re taking our momentum into the New Year and planning a whole slew of new enhancements to Newton. In addition to releasing exciting new features, Newton Software will join technology industry leaders like IBM, Microsoft and Netflix by moving our product to Amazon’s EC2 Cloud computing environment. Moving to the Cloud will make Newton even faster and more agile and provide existing and future customers other significant advantages.
Here’s a quick review of 2010
Exciting Growth
We grew corporate revenue by over 1000% this past year.
We added nearly 100 new customers.
We released more new features than any other applicant tracking vendor with 6 major releases (including 2 major performance releases) containing over 150 new product enhancements.
Changing the Conversation
Simple is in. In a saturated market, we’ve proven that our easy-to-use, intuitive recruiting software and our frictionless business model are what human resources buyers want. More value, less hassle, great service and huge value – that’s what people want. We deliver.
Ease of use is the new killer feature. Newton’s best in class user interface and intuitive built-in recruiting workflow yields the highest user adoption rates of any applicant management platform +90%.
Right Engine, Right Partners
We’re now seamlessly integrated with the leading mid-market HRIS/HCM solution Workday and their exclusive mid-market reseller and our dear partner, OneSource VHR. Together, we’re changing the mid-market HR technology landscape by offering customers a modern, complete HR solution. Think seamless, automated, paperless!
Custom Reporting Engine
Last year we released the industry’s only real time recruiting analytics dashboard. In just a couple of weeks we’ll release the most powerful custom reporting engine in the business. A drag a drop report builder will help Newton users create customized recruiting reports, save them and even export them to a formatted (yes, something you can send to someone) Excel document.
What’s next?
Well, we don’t want to give away the farm here but we can tell you that our next features involve modernizing internal referral programs, position control, social recruiting and mobile – SEXY!
When you are a marketing person, it’s easy to take what you perceive as ‘the little’ things for granted. Here’s an example. The other day, a good customer sent us list of suggestions for our product. At the end of the list he added a marketing idea; put a list of all of the web browsers and OS logos that show which Newton is compatible with. Newton works on any browser on both Mac and PC platforms. You can bet that the next iteration of our home page will have some new logos.
Newton is applicant tracking software that works with any commercial web browser. We specifically test Newton for use with Google’s Chrome, Mozilla’s FireFox and Window’s Internet Explorer. Newton works on Safari but who cares? Just sayin’. And, given that Newton is completely web based, it doesn’t matter if you’re a Mac or a PC, we’re platform independent – use Newton as you wish on either platform.
Out of curiosity, I took a poll to see what browser Newton employees prefer.
70% Chrome
30% FireFox
We all have IE installed on our machines.
We all have FireFox installed on our computers too.
Steve is the only one with Safari installed on his computer. He says it’s for testing Newton.
Newton Software has joined technology industry leaders like IBM, Microsoft and Netflix by moving our popular applicant tracking software to Amazon’s EC2 cloud computing environment. Moving to Amazon’s EC2 platform makes Newton even more agile and provides existing and future customers significant advantages.
Everyone will agree, one of the keys to running a successful corporate recruiting program is staying organized. In today’s world, where applicants can easily apply to hundreds of openings with a few mouse clicks and each job attracts hundreds of candidates, keeping track of everyone, especially those diamonds in the rough, is a real challenge.
That is, unless you’re using Newton.
Introducing Newton folders, the easiest way to keep track of candidates of interest.
With Newton folders
• Now you will easily keep track of someone for that job that will open up next month
• Create folders to store awesome applicants
• Have folders to track candidates that are in a specific stage of your recruiting process like people that are completing testing or pre-employment screening
• How about a folder to store candidates from your competitors?
Find an applicant you want to add to a folder and just drag and drop them in.. it’s that easy.
Share your folders with other Newton users or make them private. Newton’s Folders are flexible and designed to help you stay organized.

We get nerdy about figuring out ways to make people more efficient. So, we’re excited about the September release of Newton, our popular, easy-to-use applicant tracking software.
Newton has always been designed to provide users with helpful dashboards to tell the story of exactly what’s going on in your recruiting program. Now, with suggestions from of our user community, we’ve designed some features to surface more relevant information about jobs without polluting our best in class user interface.
Watch the video to learn more. Oh, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. More to come.
We’re super excited about our upcoming release due out September 10th. Over half of the new features are customer recommendations. Last month, we did a large performance release to ensure that Newton has the capacity and speed to keep up with our growing customer base (we’re serious about performance). September is all about cool new features. Our development team is working away at building and testing 10 great new additions to Newton. We’ve figured we’d give you a quick look at what’s to come.
We’ll release more details on the “Tracking” feature in a couple of days. It will be the only feature of it’s kind in the applicant tracking software world. In the meantime, think “Twitter feed” for your recruiting program.
Here’s a discrete preview of what’s on tap for September.
Last week, we introduced a new utility that enables Newton customers to design even more elegant, powerful careers sites – better places to visit so you can attract and engage candidates and make their first impression memorable.
The first company to take advantage of our newest careers site functionality is MarkLogic, a leading provider of information infrastructure software, serving industries including media, government, financial services, and others. MarkLogic is headquartered in San Carlos, California with field offices in New York, Washington, DC, London, Boston, Austin, and Frankfurt. The company is privately held with investors Sequoia Capital and Tenaya Capital. As a rapidly growing business, MarkLogic understands that creating a great applicant experience is a key differentiator and sets the tone for how seriously they take attracting the best talent.

We’re fired up to announce that we won the most substantive segment of the first annual HRtechnology(R) Ironman Competition hosted HR systems integrator, HRchitect. Four vendors including, Newton Software faced off against one another in a competition judged by panelists that preregistered for the event in order to learn more about mid-market applicant tracking software.
The event was comprised of 4 categories during which vendors were asked to showcase their advantages over the competition. We won the coveted “biking” segment which called on the vendors to feature technology, functionality, and usability. The event was a good opportunity for prospective ATS buyers to learn more about the strengths of all the vendors. And, this was a huge morale booster for us as we edged out companies that have been in the applicant tracking industry for 10+ years.
We hear this (or something like it) all the time, “My manager wants me to send status reports and I barely have time to eat lunch.” Back in our recruiting days, we loathed putting together status reports. It was time consuming. It drove us nuts and before Newton, getting applicant tracking software to generate a quick, useful report was nearly impossible. So we built a little feature in Newton to take care of those dreaded status updates. We automated them.
Newton will send a summary of all of the active candidates on any job to anyone you want. You can choose whether you want to send an Active Candidate Report daily or weekly and you can even select what time that you want the report delivered.
